Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Coral Identifier handles information when you use the website, educational tools, and download links.

Last updated: July 3, 2026

Important note

This page is provided for transparency and general information. It is not legal advice. If you need a legally reviewed policy for a specific jurisdiction, have this page reviewed by a qualified professional.

1. Scope

This policy applies only to the Coral Identifier website at getcoralidentifier.com.

The website may describe or link to the Coral Identifier mobile app, Apple App Store, Google Play, and other third-party pages. Those app and third-party experiences are outside the scope of this website policy.

The website itself provides educational pages, coral database pages, reef aquarium calculators, app download links, and cookie-based analytics controls. It does not currently provide user accounts, newsletter signup, contact forms, payments, or web-based photo upload.

2. Information we may collect

We collect only the information needed to operate, improve, and support the website. Depending on how you use the site, this may include:

  • Website analytics data, such as page views, button clicks, browser type, approximate region, referral source, and app store download link clicks.
  • Analytics events from website tools and search interfaces, such as selected tool mode, selected coral group, calculator values, result category, and search query. These events are handled under the current Google Analytics consent state; analytics storage is granted only if you accept analytics cookies.
  • Cookie consent status stored locally in your browser under the key coral_cookie_consent_v1.
  • Technical information needed to keep the website reliable, such as device, browser, and error diagnostics.
  • Information handled by Apple App Store or Google Play when you use external download links from this website. That information is handled by those stores under their own policies.

Please avoid entering personal information into website calculators, search fields, or other on-page tools. The website does not need names, addresses, account numbers, private documents, or other sensitive personal information for its reef tools.

3. Cookies and analytics

In production, the website may load the Google Analytics script when a Google Analytics measurement ID is configured. The site uses Consent Mode with analytics storage denied by default. Until consent is granted, analytics storage remains denied.

When analytics is loaded, the site may call Google Analytics for events such as page views, navigation clicks, app download clicks, guide interactions, search interactions, and calculator/tool usage events. The current Consent Mode state controls whether analytics storage is denied or granted. Google Analytics is configured with IP anonymization.

You can reject analytics cookies from the cookie banner. You can also clear your browser storage to remove the saved consent choice and see the banner again.

The site does not use analytics cookies for advertising, ad personalization, or ad user data. Those consent categories are denied in the site configuration.

4. How we use information

We may use information to:

  • operate the website, educational content, and web calculators;
  • operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the website;
  • understand which pages, tools, guide topics, and download links are useful;
  • protect against misuse, spam, scraping, or technical abuse.

5. Third-party services

Coral Identifier may rely on service providers to host the website, process website analytics, and link visitors to third-party pages.

These providers may include Apple App Store, Google Play, Google Analytics, and hosting providers. Their handling of information is also governed by their own privacy terms.

The website may also link to third-party app store pages, coral reference photos, source pages, and license pages. If you open those links, the third-party site controls its own content, availability, and privacy practices.

6. Retention

We keep information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer retention period is required for security, legal, accounting, or dispute-resolution reasons.

Third-party pages linked from this website, including app store pages, may retain their own records according to their own policies.

7. Your choices and rights

You can reject analytics cookies, clear local browser storage, avoid entering personal information into website tools, and use third-party account settings to manage data on external sites you open from this website.

8. Children

Coral Identifier is intended for reef aquarium hobbyist education and is not designed for children. Do not submit children's personal information through website tools.

9. Contact and changes to this policy

For privacy requests, use the support contact listed on the Coral Identifier App Store or Google Play listing. This website does not currently provide a separate contact form.

We may update this Privacy Policy when Coral Identifier changes, when providers change, or when legal requirements change. The latest version will be posted on this page with the updated date above.
